15 Years of BBC Në Shqip Covering the Region And the World in Albanian

The BBC’s Albanian service, BBC në Shqip, is celebrating the 15th anniversary of its relaunch. The radio and online broadcaster has announced plans to make a series of special editions of the flagship radio and TV debate program, Auditorium, from Tirana and Albania’s other centers, as well as from Pristina, and to further expand its presence on Albania’s media market.

Nikki Clarke, Head of Americas and Europe Region, BBC World Service, said: “BBC në Shqip has spent the last 15 years at the cutting edge of journalism in the region.

“With its well deserved reputation for high standards and innovation and excellent news gathering both in Albania and the region, it has covered the sometimes turbulent events in Albania and Kosovo with the BBC’s trademark commitment to accuracy and impartiality.

“In recent years our debate program, Auditorium, produced in conjunction with Albania’s Top Channel and RTK, has changed the nature of televised political debate and given its audience the opportunity to ask questions directly to leading politicians.”

Diana Kola, Acting Head of BBC Albanian, added: “We are planning to build on the strength of Auditorium by producing a new series in Albania and Kosovo. We intend to get closer to the audience through our radio programming as well as the website, bbcalbanian.com.

“Apart from developments in the region, our focus will be on major international stories and other issues affecting people’s lives. We are also looking forward to extending our existing partnership deals with the Albanian media - and creating new ones.”

BBC Albanian service’s flagship current affairs program, BBC Sot, is available on the BBC’s FM relays 103.9 MHz in the Albanian capital, Tirana, and 98.5 MHz in Pristina, Kosovo, between 07.00 and 12.00 Central European Time from Monday to Friday. It brings news and current affairs from the region and the rest of the world as well as interviews, forums, culture shows.

The evening program with news, current affairs, interviews and interactive debates is on air from 17.00 to 18.00, Monday to Friday. The weekend schedule includes morning news and current program broadcast between 07.30 and 08.30, and the evening program broadcast between 17.00 and 18.30. The Sunday music program, Ritem&Pop, is broadcast at 14.30 and is repeated at 1730.
