16 Killed in Bus Train Collision

This morning in Punjab, India, at around at 8.20 a.m. a mini bus was hit by train no. 4629 Ludhiana-Ferozepur Sutlej Express at a manned level crossing Gate No. 50-B between Jagraon-Ajitwal stations of Ferozepur Division. Sixteen people were killed and another thirteen who received injuries have been moved to hospital. No injuries has been reported amongst the train passengers.

An inquiry has been ordered and will be conducted by the Commissioner of Railway Safety.

The Indian Minister of Railways, Shri Lalu Prasad has announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 5,00,000/- (Five lakh) to families of each of the dead in the collision in Moga district in Punjab today. He also announced an ex-gratia of Rs. 50,000/- each for grievously injured and Rs. 15,000/- each for those who suffered simple injuries in the collision.
