Actor Jerry Seinfeld Admits Considering Joining Scientology

Jerry Seinfeld said he’d briefly considered becoming a Scientologist. Speaking to Access Hollywood, entertainment television show, the comedian said he studied the practice about 30 years ago.”The only thing that bothers me about people knowing that is that it is not my complete wacko resume. It’s just one aspect,” he said.

Speaking about what founder L. Ron Hubbard described as an “applied religious philosophy,” Seinfeld said “I am very interested in self-help things. When I was a young man in my 20s, I would explore like meditation, and I studied Aikido and karate and yoga and I would just take little things from each of these things.” Seinfeld said he dropped Scientology to move on to other self-help practices.

Married for seven years, the 53-year-old comedian is now a father of three. When asked if married life provides fertile ground for material, the Golden Globe and Emmy-winning Seinfeld said “it is the gold mine. It is the ultimate comedy gold mine, marriage. If I did another TV series it would be called ‘Mrs. Seinfeld.’”

His latest project, the animated comedy Bee Movie, opens November 2.

Singer, Actor Robert Goulet Dies

Entertainer Robert Goulet, who gained legions of fans with his rich, baritone singing voice and handsome features, has died in Los Angeles at the age of 73.Goulet passed away Tuesday at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he was was awaiting a lung transplant. He was admitted to the hospital last month with a lung disease known as pulmonary fibrosis.

He first gained fame in 1960 for his role as Sir Lancelot in the Broadway musical Camelot,which led to dozens of appearances on television variety shows.

He won a Grammy Award for best new artist in 1962, and a Tony Award in 1968 for his role in the musical The Happy Time. Goulet also became a popular attraction in the western U.S. city of Las Vegas, a popular destination for tourists and gamblers.

Goulet was born in Massachusetts in 1933 of French-Canadian parents. His family moved to Canada after his father’s death, while Goulet was still in his early teens.

He made his first professional appearance at the age of 16, when he performed with the Edmonton Symphony. He later won a vocal scholarship to the Royal Conservatory of Music at the University of Toronto.
