UN Envoy Denounces Burma’s Closure of Monastery

$200 Million Boost for UK Fishing And Seafood Industries

Fishing and seafood industries will be able to bid for a share of almost £100million worth of grants from next year under a new European scheme. This amount will be boosted by additional funding from government. The UK has been allocated approximately £97million, more than £30million of which has been earmarked to boost local economies such as Cornwall, to finance projects under the European Fisheries Fund. Daredevil Evel Knievel Dies At Age 69

Daredevil Evel Knievel has died at the age of 69 according to a family member.

Knievel’s granddaughter, Krysten Knievel confirms that he died after his health failed due to diabetes and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. In 1999 he also underwent a liver transplant after complications from hepatitis C. he was born Robert Craig Knievel Jr. on October 17, 1938 in Butte, Montana, USA.

Knievel will likely be most remembered for a failed stunt he tried to perform in Idaho. He attempted to jump over Snake River canyon with a rocket powered motorcycle, which ended in a major crash.

“No king or prince has lived a better life. You’re looking at a guy who’s really done it all. And there are things I wish I had done better, not only for me but for the ones I loved,” said Knievel in an Associated Press interview in 2006.

Knievel retired in 1980.

Amtrak Train Collides With a Freight Train in Chicago

An Amtrak train has collided with a freight train in the South Side of Chicago. The Amtrak’s passenger cars have remained upright and there are no reports of explosions or fire. Officials say there are about five serious injuries amongst the crew and no serious injuries so far with the 100 to 150 passengers. Fifteen ambulances were on their way to the scene.

The engine unit of the Amtrak train is resting on top of the rear of the freight train. The Amtrak involved is a short train with three double-decker passenger cars. Firefighters carried several children from the accident. “The passenger cars look to be in great shape, great shape,” Langford, spokesman for the fire department said.
