Inflation Hits Double Digit in Zambia This Week

After more than a year of single digit inflation, Zambia’s records keeper, the Central Statistical Office (CSO), has announced that the country hit double digit inflation this week. CSO Director Efrida Chulu told journalists that the double digit inflation was as a result of rising food prices, which has seen the March inflation at 10 percent from the previous nine percent. U.S. Hispanic Population Surpasses 45 Million

The nation’s Hispanic population increased 1.4 million to reach 45.5 million on July 1, 2007, or 15.1 percent of the estimated total U.S. population of 301.6 million. National and state estimates by race, Hispanic origin, sex and age released today by the U.S. Census Bureau also show that the Hispanic population exceeded 500,000 in 16 states. Read more

An Australian Child’s Vocabulary: It’s “I” Before “we”, Both Before “you”

The Oxford University Press in Australia has released a list of the most-used words in a study of nearly 4,000 writing samples from children in their first three years of school. After removing names of people, places and brands, the top 307 words were published. “I” topped the list, with “my” in 7th place and “me” at 33rd. Read more
One of Nine Escaped Islamists Prisoners Nabbed in Morocco

The Moroccan authorities on Thursday announced they arrested one of nine Islamists that broke away from the Kenitra jail (45 km north of Rabat) on 7 April. The authorities also arrested the two accomplices that harbored the prisoner, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Read more
