Russian Firm Gazprom Neft Sees Half-yearly Net Profit Soar 93.7% to $3.6b

Gazprom Neft, the oil arm of Russian energy giant Gazprom, has posted a 93.7% year-on-year increase in net profit calculated to US GAAP in the first half of 2008 to $3.6 billion. The oil producer’s sales in January-June 2008 stood at $17.7 billion, up 91.2% against the same period of last year. Read more

At Least 140 Die in Stampede At Hindu Temple Near Jodhpur, India

Over 140 people died in a massive stampede at the Chamunda Devi temple Jodhpur, in the western state of Rajasthan, India. A temple wall collapsed, causing panic among ten of thousands of gathered Hindu worshipers who then began to run for safety, causing the stampede.
