24 Sub-Saharan Illegal Migrants Gone Missing Off Moroccan Coast
February 14, 2008
Twenty-four illegal sub-Saharan migrants have been reported missing since Tuesday night after their makeshift boat left the shores 40 kilometers away from the Moroccan city of Tarfaya (south), sources said on Wednesday.
The missing people were alleged to have been attempting to cross over to the Canary Island.
Sources say the efforts to forestall illegal migration have led to the discovery of about 260 illegal migration networks.
Last week, Rabat disclosed that over 550 illegal immigrants were intercepted between February 1 and 6 and that 90 of whom were Moroccan nationals.
