30 Palestinian Refugees Resettled in Brazil

October 18, 2007

The United Nations refugee agency says 30 Palestinians who fled Iraq were flown to Brazil Thursday for resettlement.

The refugees were part of a group of more than 100 Palestinians who have been living in a Jordanian desert refugee camp following the ouster of Saddam Hussein in 2003.

Most of the other Palestinians already have been resettled in Brazil, where they will be receiving accommodations, medical care and assistance for up to two years.

The refugee agency says Jordan’s Ruweishid camp, where the refugees lived, will be shut down in the coming weeks.
