61 Year Old Faller Airlifted to Hospital

April 26, 2008

At half past five Friday evening Aberdeen MRCC (Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre) was informed of a 61 year old man that had fallen down a gully, 8miles inland near Randolph’s Leap on the River Findhorn, Morayshire.

Aberdeen Coastguard tasked Lossiemouth and Burghead Coastguard Rescue Teams to the scene. Grampian Police, Fire and Rescue and Ambulance services also proceeded to provide assistance.

Coastguard Rescue Officers arrived on scene and located the casualty. Aberdeen MRCC decided a helicopter was the safest way of extricating the casualty and so RAF Rescue Helicopter 137 was scrambled from Lossiemouth.

Once on scene the casualty was airlifted to Dr. Gray’s Hospital in Elgin where he will be treated for a suspected broken leg.

Aberdeen Coastguard Watch Manager Fiona Hastie said:

“The casualty is now en route to Dr. Gray’s Hospital where we wish him a speedy recovery.

Traveling on cliff paths can always be dangerous and we would strongly advise members of the public to keep to designated paths and avoid the cliff edge as undergrowth can become slippery and ground can be unstable. If you are setting out on a walk at the coast or inland always inform someone of your intentions so that they can raise the alarm if you are late or overdue.”
