Nigeria has approved 95,000 Muslims from the 36 states to perform this year’s pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia, the Director of the Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board (MPWB), Dr Shu’iabu Kurfi, said on Monday in Abuja.
Kurfi said the government had also fixed the highest charge under category `A’ for $4,000 to cover transport, accommodation, and feeding.
“The preparations for this year’s Hajj are in top gear ; we have secured better accommodation facilities for our pilgrims compared to that of last year.
“Adequate transportation and feeding arrangements have also been put in place,’’ he said.
Kurfi said the board was intensifying its education and enlightenment campaign on Hajj rites and he urged the pilgrims to be good ambassadors of the country.
He however said pregnant women and aged persons were prohibited from performing the Hajj.
