Afghanistan Denies Iranian Involvement in Domestic Affairs
April 9, 2008
Afghan Foreign Minister Rangin Dadfar Spanta on April 7 denied that Iran is interfering in Afghan domestic affairs, IRNA reported the same day.
He said there is no proof that Iran is backing opposition to the Afghan government. Speaking to reporters in Kabul, he said that the people of Afghanistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran share the same religion and language.
“There are rumors about Iran’s interference in Afghan domestic affairs, but I once again emphasize that there is no document to that effect,” he said. “What the Iranian foreign minister and president say is important to us, not what others claim.”
