The African Union (AU) Commission general assembly has said it awaits a free, fair and inclusive election in Sudan in April.
A draft resolution document tabled for the leaders for approval said that Sudan will be facing over the coming months a number of events that will be critical for its future.
“This will have a tremendous impact on the region and Africa as a whole, including the April 2010 elections and the January 2011 self-determination referendum for Southern Sudan,” said a draft declaration obtained by APA.
The resolution also stressed the need to expedite the resolution of the conflict in Darfur so that Darfurians are fully part of the democratic process and the debate on the self-determination referendum as part of the ASU holistic approach on Sudan and the democratic transformation of the country.
The resolution also urged the Sudanese parties to redouble their efforts for addressing the outstanding challenges in the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement(CPA) signed among Sudanese parties to solve the crisis in Sudan,Darfur..
Sudan has been on the agenda of the international community for the past few years due to the situation in Darfur.
