The African Union Commission President, Jean Ping and President Laurent Gbagbo of Cote d’Ivoire have discussed the crises that hit the West African region.
“I came late to thank him for the support Cote d’Ivoire had brought to my application and then tried to discuss the sub-regional issues as a whole”, Ping said after meeting President Gbagbo.
“You know the sub-region is facing many problems. We took stock of the situation prevailing in the area” he said, adding that AU is working closely with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) .
“This is one of the regions where we have an exemplary collaboration in all issues”, the AU boss and former Gabonese diplomat said.
“Together we helped Guinea Bissau to quell the crisis. As far as Guinea is concerned, it is a very complex case, this is why we want to work closely with ECOWAS that knows the region better than anyone”, Ping affirmed, stressing that “Cote d’Ivoire has made a long way, so far.
“Cote d’Ivoire is resolutely moving towards settling the crisis. Fair wind to Côte d’Ivoire !”, said the AU President who is on his maiden visit to Cote d’Ivoire since he was at the helm in February 2008.
