May 5, 2008
Algeria has confirmed its participation in the 11th extraordinary session of the African Union (AU’s) Executive Council convening on Tuesday and Wednesday in Arusha, Tanzania, sources said on Sunday.
Algeria’s delegate minister for Maghreb and African Affairs minister, M. Abdelkader Messahel, will lead his country’s delegation.
The AU heads of state Executive Council called for the meeting during the 10th ordinary session of the AU conference held January in Addis Ababa.
Participants will focus on the review of the report by the high panel on the AU audit, the source said.
The Arusha meeting will enable the heads of state to ponder on the AU Commission’s audit report and on its observations on other AU bodies and institutions, and regional economic commissions to strengthen the Union.
Furthermore, the AU Executive Council will further elect the commissioner in charge of the rural economy and agriculture and define a joint position towards the holding of the 4th Tokyo international Conference on African Development (TICAD) in Yokohama, Japan from 28 to 30 May 2008.
The conclusions of the Tanzania meeting will be submitted to the AU heads of state during the 9th ordinary session of the AU Conference to be held in Sharm el-Cheikh, Egypt in July.
