Alleged Child Porn Smuggler Arrested At Adelaide Airport

August 6, 2008

A 33-year-old Malaysian man was arrested by Customs investigators at Adelaide International Airport yesterday (Tuesday) for allegedly attempting to smuggle child pornography into the country.

The man was selected for a baggage search when he arrived on a flight from Kuala Lumpur.

During the baggage search Customs officers allegedly found a memory card containing video files depicting females under the age of 18-years engaged in sexual acts and poses.

Customs investigators arrested the man and charged him with importation of goods in breach of Regulation 4A of the Customs (Prohibited Import) Regulations 1956.

The man’s passport has been confiscated and he was bailed to appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court on Friday 8 August 2008.

Customs National Manager Investigations, Richard Janeczko, said Customs was dedicated to detecting any attempt to import prohibited items.

“The importation of child pornography into Australia is prohibited and Customs is committed to detecting and prosecuting those involved with the importation of such material,” Mr Janeczko said.

The maximum penalty for this offense is $275,000 and/or 10 years imprisonment.
