The League of Arab States has condemned the decision to ban the construction of mosque minarets in Switzerland, that came under a referendum approved by 57% of the Swiss people.

The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Amr Moussa told reporters in Cairo on Tuesday that “this act affects the rights of Muslims living in Switzerland in accordance with the fundamental principles of human rights and international covenants” .

He said that he had received a telephone call on Tuesday from the Swiss Foreign Minister Micheline Calmy regarding the decision to ban minarets pointing out that the Swiss foreign minister will soon visit the region to provide clarifications in this regard.
