125px-Flag_of_Sudan.svg_1The Arab League has welcomed the agreement reached in Sudan between the two power-sharing parties to pass a law on referendum on south Sudan as an important step towards implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement between North and South Sudan.

In a press statement issued in Cairo on Wednesday, Ambassador Samir Hosni, head of the Arab League Afro- Arab Cooperation Department, expressed hope that the anticipated referendum would contribute in achieving unity in Sudan.

In a related development, Egypt has expressed its satisfaction with endeavors to ease tensions between Sudan and Chad on the hope that they will resume constructive dialogue to reach a solution to their differences.

The spokesman for the Egyptian foreign ministry, Hossam Zaki, stressed on Wednesday that settling disputes between the two African countries is key to achieving peace and will help to end the Darfur problem.

He noted that Cairo will continue to work to bring closer viewpoints between the two sides .
