The chief of staff of the Guinean army, Colonel Oumar Sanoh has appealed for calm, serenity and vigilance, while promising to arrest, prosecute and bring to justice the main perpetrators of the assassination attempt against the head of the military junta, Captain Moussa Dadis Camara, currently in Morocco for hospital treatment after being shot by his aide, Aboubacar Sidiki Diakite “Toumba”, who is still on the run.
“It has been 72 hours since Captain Camara was victim of an assassination attempt physically. But God be praised, he is well and he will return very soon,” he said on state radio.
“I reiterate that Guinea is one and indivisible. Therefore, safeguarding national unity and social peace must be our motto and our goal for all of us. The army remains united and faithful to the ideals of peace of the National Council for Democracy and Development, and its President, Captain Moussa Dadis Camara,” Colonel Sanoh said.
He also launched an urgent appeal to Guineans in general, the military, in particular, calling for “calm, serenity and vigilance”.
“I invite the armed and defense forces to ensure the safety of citizens and foreigners”, he added.
“The perpetrators of the assassination attempt against the physical head of state, will be arrested, prosecuted and brought before our courts, in accordance with law” the head of the Guinean armed forces assured.
