The controversial Rwandan opposition presidential aspirant, Victoire Ingabire Umuhoza, has been admitted to the elite King Faisal Hospital in Kigali after being attacked by unknown assailants as she toured the outskirts of Kigali, reports say.
According to information obtained by APA, Ingabire who has publicly expressed her political intentions to compete against President Paul Kagame, during this year’s presidential elections, was mugged and robbed at her party offices in Kinyinya, a Kigali suburb.
Joseph Ntawangundi, Ingabire’s aide was reportedly beaten and stripped naked by unknown assailants with the Kinyinya executive secretary, Shema Jonas who had called them on telephone to collect their identification documents, looking on.
Ingabire herself was reportedly injured and her bag grabbed by the attackers. She fled into her car as a mob of young men in civilian clothes closed in on her and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Last week, Ingabire told 256news.com in an exclusive interview that the Rwanda government had plans to arrest her.
Ingabire wants to contest in the forthcoming presidential elections.
The formerly exiled politician returned to Rwanda on January 12, immediately causing a stir with comments that have left her branded as a genocide negationist and revisionist.
