May 17, 2008

Three men were killed late Saturday in Waberi district, south Mogadishu, including the head of the Hodan district court and a former colonel, when unknown men shot them dead nearby a cafeteria at Hotel Ambassador, residents told APA.

“Two of them died instantly and the other died when being rushed to a nearby hospital, in Medina,” said Shiine Hamney, a neighbor of the head of the court.

In north Mogadishu, another famous man and head of Hormuud Telecommunication Company was killed by uniformed men as he was driving his car.

“He was driving his car and these men opened fire until he died, the car was totally destroyed by bullets. He died inside his vehicle,” Subeydo Ahmed, an employer of the company, told APA.

Assassinations of officials have escalated in Mogadishu these days as government soldiers are on daily crackdown operations which outcome seems unknown since the assassinations are ongoing.

Mogadishu has seen more violence after Ethiopian incursion with transitional federal troops entered in the capital city of Somalia, Mogadishu, in late 2006 taking over from the Islamic Unions courts that stabilize the south and central regions including the city for six months.

Somalia had been plunged in anarchy after the overthrow of dictator Mohamed Siad Barre in 1991, when warlords used their clan based militias to fall over the dictator, leading to constant inter-clan war which left thousands killed and millions displaced.
