An associate of former Liberian President Charles Taylor has described as ’untrue’ the claim by Special Court Prosecutor Stephen Rapp that $6 million of Taylor’s wealth has been discovered and frozen by the United Nations.
Speaking to APA Saturday, Mr. Sando Johnson, a former legislator in the government of former President Taylor, said: “This is a black lie, there is no money anywhere. This thing is intended to blackmail Mr. Taylor and dehumanize him so that people, including his supporters will shy away from him”.
Sando Johnson, considered a spokesman of the Taylor family, said if the war crimes suspect had any money, he would not let the UN hire a lawyer for him.
“There is no truth in that. I challenge Mr. Rapp to show us where the money is. I have said this over and over. Mr Taylor does not have a dime in any bank in the world. It is a blatant lie,” he emphasized.
