Flag of EthiopiaAt least 43 passengers died in a bus accident in the northern part of Ethiopia on Tuesday at 280km from Addis Ababa. The bus was traveling from Addis Ababa to Gondar which is 750km from the capital, the Ethiopian police said on Wednesday in Addis Ababa.

The bus, according to police, turned over in a 80meter deep gorge where fire erupted following the incident burning the bodies of the deceased.

However, seven passengers including one woman, who survived the accident with serious injures and burns, are currently getting medical treatment.

The bus is owned by Sky Bus Transport company which started business with 14 buses two years ago.

Many passengers choose the company for the good service it provides to customers as the buses are equipped with different facilities, including toilets.

Ethiopia is among few countries with high traffic accident in the world. According to Ethiopian Federal traffic police report, over 2,000 people die annually in the country while over $100 million worth property are damaged in the process.

UPDATE: Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs has confirmed a 32-year-old Victorian man was among the dead. The name has not been released.
