Attack By Unidentified Gunmen Leaves Two Ivorian Soldiers Dead
Two members of Cote d’Ivoire’s regular army were killed in an attack perpetrated early Sunday at a passageway located in Agboville (North Abidjan).
The attack was perpetrated at Ery-Makouguie passageway number 1 located at around two km from South Agboville, a source close Cote d’Ivoire’s Army Chief of staff confirmed to the African Press Agency.
The sources said the shooting lasted for half an hour with the assailants thought to have hidden themselves in the cemetery by the observation post as they launched the attack.
According to an Agboville-based medical source a young civilian aged 24 was severely injured as he was seated on the passageway when the attack took place.
These witness accounts were disclosed after investigations were launched by the National Office for Technical Studies and Development (BNETD), the body tasked with ensuring the smooth flow of traffic along the roads.
The assailants have also held up a four wheel drive car belonging to BNETD but later abandoned it several km from where the attack happened.
On 8 August a similar attack left one soldier of the Ivorian regular army dead.
Ivorian forces have been targeted in harrying hit-and-run raids by yet-to-be-identified militiamen who are suspected to be supporters of the former regime of Laurent Gbagbo.
