Australian Mining Firm, Capital Resources Says It has Discovered Large Quantities of High Quality Iron Ore in the Chiuta District, Mozambique
An Australian mining firm, Capital Resources has said it has discovered a deposit containing large quantities of high quality Iron in the Chiuta district, in the central region of the Mozambican province of Tete, state -controlled newspaper NotÃcias reported on Thursday.
The country’s largest newspaper, Noticias quoted a source from the National Mining Directorate as saying that so far the region had inferred deposits of 482 million tons of iron ore identified by Capitol Resources, a subsidiary of Australian group Baobab Resources.
In his turn, the district administrator of Chiuta, Celestino Checanhanza, said that commercial exploration of iron ore was expected to begin in 2016.
He noted that the iron ore would be the first mineral to be mined in the district which has also been shown to contain other minerals such as copper, marble, titanium and aquamarines.
According to the newspaper, the administrator of Chiuta also said that within two years construction of a branch line of the Sena railroad would begin.
The new branch line will start in Moatize and run as far as Manje, the district capital of Chiuta, which will drive development in the region and introduce improvements in the system for distribution of agricultural and silvicultural products, amongst others.
