February 10, 2008
One of the biggest displays of Australian agribusiness innovation gets underway next week at the world’s largest farm show, World Ag Expo 2008, being held in Tulare, California, 12-14 February.
Austrade, the Australian Government’s export development agency, will host 20 businesses as part of the Australia Pavilion at World Ag Expo 2008 to showcase their expertise and identify new business opportunities in the United States, which has an agriculture market that spends over A$280 billion on farm inputs each year.
The Australia Pavilion will provide US buyers with the opportunity to view the latest innovation in hydroponics systems, water conservation technologies, farm safety devices, precision farming solutions, labor-saving devices and eco-friendly products. Ian Smith, Austrade’s US-based Agribusiness Team Leader and Trade Commissioner in Chicago, said for the third year running Australia will have the largest presence of any foreign country at World Ag Expo, which is well known for its innovative technology and solutions in the agribusiness sector.
“Australian agricultural producers are some of the most efficient in the world, due largely to their readiness to adopt cutting-edge technologies developed by home-grown companies,” Mr Smith said.
“Our agribusinesses are already supplying the United States with a wide array of high-quality products and services across a range of sectors. Australia is a world leader in areas such as minimum tillage farming, water conservation and precision agriculture to name a few.
“The breadth of companies represented within the Australia Pavilion demonstrates the ingenuity and diversity of Australian agriculture,” he said.
The 41st annual World Ag Expo will feature more than 1,700 exhibitors from 67 countries, displaying the latest innovations in agricultural equipment, technology, products and services to an audience of over 100,000 visitors.
The United States is Australia’s largest trade and investment partner, with annual two-way merchandise trade now worth more than A$47.7 billion, representing a valuable market for Australian businesses looking to expand internationally.
Austrade has a network devoted to the US market providing extensive support for Australian exporters with representation in 18 US cities, eight specialist industry teams, including a dedicated agribusiness team, and a network of US Export Advisers around Australia.
