Belgium has pledged 16.5 million euros to fund clean water supplies to rural people in the South of Morocco, sources said. The project is part of the Belgian - Moroccan Indicative Cooperation Programme (PIC) for the 2006-2009 period.
The Belgian cooperation program is in line with the Moroccan Human Development Initiative (INDH) launched in 2005 to fight precariousness in both urban and rural areas for the benefit of 6 million people.
Initially, the INDH was billed to last five years on 10 billion dirham (1.3 billion US dollars), 20% of which are donations from the international cooperation.
Exchanges between Morocco and Belgium amount to 600 million Euros whereas 400,000 Moroccan nationals are living in Belgium whose population is 10 million, while 3,000 Belgians are living in Morocco.
