125px-Flag_of_Niger.svgBelgium has provided funding of 15.6 million euros to support the improvement of the economic situation of women in the region of Dosso (south-west) and boost the performance of the livestock sector in Niger.

This funding is made possible by two agreements signed by the Niger Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mamadou Samba and Daniel Ceunick, the Attaché to International Cooperation at the Belgian embassy in Niger, sources said.

The Belgian diplomat underlined that these two agreements are the first of the new Indicative Cooperation Program (ICP 2009-2012) signed by Niamey and Brussels on October 30, 2008.

The first agreement for the amount of 4.6 million euros aims to fund Phase II of the Dosso women cash incomes improvement program in south-western Niger.

The second funding of $11 million will be spent as part of the support program for pastoral development and securing pastoral systems.

“The areas covered by these two agreements are priority areas jointly defined by the Belgian Cooperation and the Niger government”, Ceunik said.

He said the signing of these agreements is a sign of friendship and solidarity between the two countries and peoples.

The activities of the second phase of the program to increase cash incomes of women in the Dosso region is inspired by the first phase aimed at greater involvement and accountability of all officials of the department responsible for promoting women.
