Bharti Airtel Lanka Ltd Will Initiate Wireless Communication in Sri Lanka This Year

AirtelBharti Airtel Lanka (Pvt) Ltd will initiate wireless communication in Sri Lanka this year. Bharti Airtel Lanka (Pvt) Limited, a subsidiary of Bharti Airtel Limited, is one of Asia’s leading integrated telecoms services companies.

The agreement signed with Bharti Airtel Lanka is for a project to construct and operate wireless communication towers. The investment will provide passive infrastructure for radio communication towers.

This venture sponsored by Bharti Airtel Lanka is an investment of US $ 104 million. It is expected to provide employment opportunities for a huge workforce. The venture’s project office will be located at Colombo 10.

Bharti Airtel recently received an approval to launch 2G and 3G mobile services in Sri Lanka.

Bharti Airtel Limited, a group company of Bharti Enterprises, is Asia’s leading integrated telecoms services provider. Bharti Airtel provides services in three strategic business units - Mobile services, Broadband & Telephone (B&T) services and Enterprise services.

In September, Bharti Airtel Lanka (Private) Limited signed an investment agreement worth US $ 150 million with BOI to commence telecommunication operations.

Johann Munaweera, Head of Corporate & Internal Communications said “We expect to provide shared access to these towers to other communication solution providers. The end result would be in providing better solutions to the consumers”.
