Bissau Police Arrest Alleged Murderers of French Tourists

January 11, 2008

Bissau police on Friday arrested two of the three people suspected of killing four French tourists in December in Mauritania.

Police chief, Lucinda Barbosa confirmed the arrest saying the two Mauritanian nationals were nabbed thanks to the joint collaboration between Guinea-Bissau’s detective police and the French police.

Barbosa said the suspects will appear in court in Bissau soon before flying them over to Mauritania.

Both men are believed to members of the Al-Qaeda Islamic branch in the Maghreb.

Sources said they fled to Senegal before crossing over to Guinea Bissau.
