Brazil has committed itself to support the development of its infrastructure in Mozambique, including the transformation of the Nacala airbase into an international airport and the construction of a coal berth at Port Beira in the Central Sofala province, Radio Mozambique reported on Thursday.
The radio reported that the Brazilians would also be involved in the construction of the 2,000-km power transmission line from Tete to Maputo at a cost of $2 billion, the construction of a $300 million dam on the River Zambezi and a flyover bridge on it.
Brazilian Trade Minister Miguel Jorge, leading a group of business person, said that his country was expecting an official request from Mozambique to offer it operational funding for the redevelopment of the Nacala airbase.
The Brazilian mission includes more than 90 entrepreneurs in the areas of transport, farm equipment, food processing and renewable energy.
From January to October 2009, the trade flow between Brazil and Mozambique was $102.5 million, up from $28.4 million in the same period of 2008.
The largest Brazilian investment in the country is represented by Vale, the former Companhia Vale do Rio Doce in Tete Province, with an investment of $1.6 billion.
