February 21, 2008

A 45-year-old Acacia Ridge man will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning after being charged by the Australian Federal Police (AFP) with accessing child pornography and online grooming offenses.

Investigations began when information was received from a member of the public.

Federal Agents from the AFP Online Child Sex Exploitation Team in Brisbane executed a search warrant on the man’s home yesterday (20 February 2008).

During the execution of the search warrant two computers allegedly containing child pornography were located and seized.

The AFP will also allege the man groomed a child over the internet for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity.

The man was arrested and charged with one count of using a carriage service for child pornography under the Criminal Code Act 1995, one count of using a carriage service to “groom” a person under 16 years of age under the Criminal Code Act 1995 and one count of possessing child exploitation material under the Criminal Code Act 1998 (Qld).

The maximum penalty for these offenses is 12 years imprisonment.
