Burkina Faso’s Prime Minister Tertius Zongo has issued a warning to members of his government and state-owned companies against “extravagant spending” during the Christmas and new year season.
Zongo made the statement in a memorandum which stressed that visibility needs should not be used as pretext to “proved drift” for non-obvious purpose.
“I was privileged enough to note that several companies and state-owned institutions had engaged in lavish spending,” the Prime Minister, who said.
He added that it “is not uncommon to see deliveries of large quantities of beverages (…) allegedly intended for personalities under the pretext of the Christmas and New Year’s celebrations.
He called for “restraint in a period when any economy even if small, should partake of good governance.”
“The 2008 fiscal year was difficult and we must impose a rigorous management”, he said.
