125px-Flag_of_Cameroon.svg_A coalition of 43 non-governmental organizations (NGO) in Cameroon has launched a campaign to promote the consumption of local products at an agricultural show scheduled for this end of year in Ebolowa (south).

According to promoters of the “Zero imported food” movement, this event is a good opportunity not only to highlight the great production potential of the country, but also and especially lay the foundation for the recovery of food self-sufficiency, even food sovereignty for Cameroon.

The coalition strongly suspects foreign multi-nationals seeking to invade the show with products such as rice, tomatoes, edible oils, milk, etc..

Therefore, they argue, the presence of imported food at the agricultural show would be “a real betrayal of the spirit of the agriculture show and a misrepresentation of President Paul Biya’s ideas, who announced an agricultural show not a trade fair.

It is also about uncovering the real dangers of imported food.

The coalition intends to push the government to set up structures to support producers.

It plans “strong civic action” in case its plea is not hear.

The last agricultural show in Cameroon, an biennial event, was held in 1988 in Maroua (far north).
