Real Review - Juno

I really wanted to dislike Juno even before I watched it. Certainly a film about an unwanted teenage pregnancy would fail to entertain. If not for an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture, I probably would have never bothered with this movie. Alarmingly, Shanghai Kiss entices its viewers with a kind of allure and wit that we come to mildly appreciate. Over time, this charm slowly dwindles away turning into a romantic comedy that doesn’t know where exactly it wants to go next. Directors Kern Konwiser and David Ren manage to hold a firm grip on the audience’s entertainment factor while working with some pretty mediocre material that could’ve easily worked on an ABC Family two-night special event. I went into The Forbidden Kingdom knowing nothing more than that it was number one last weekend, and that it stars Jackie Chan and Jet Li. To my surprise, given those stars, it turned out to be a martial arts fantasy. Who knew? Read more
Real Review - V for Vendetta HD DVD

V for Vendetta is the movie adaption of the graphic novel by Alan Moore. Due to differences in the screenplay written by the Wachowski Brothers and the original plot, Alan Moore pulled-out of the production and withdrew support for the movie. Though I have not read Moore’s book, I can only surmised that V for Vendetta should be considered a loosely-based adaption of Moore’s book. Read more
