Leonardo DiCaprio Kicks Off Animal Action Week for the IFAW

Leading Conservationists Warn That Africa’s Species are Facing a Quickening Extinction

Leading conservationists have warned here that Africa’s species are speedily facing extinction, with a quarter of the world’s mammals at risk of extinction. The global analysis of threatened species by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) established here Tuesday that: “At least 1,141 of the 5,487 mammals on earth are under threat, largely as a result of hunting and the destruction of their habitat by humans”. New Project in Madagascar to Measure Carbon Savings From Forest Conservation

Up to 500,000 hectares of moist and spiny forests in Madagascar are to be protected or restored in a pioneering project which will include testing ways to measure climate impacts. More Mammals Move Closer to Extinction

Marine mammals, such as the Narwhal and Irawaddy dolphin, and land mammals, such as tree kangaroos were confirmed to be closer to extinction by IUCN’s updated Red List of Threatened Species. The Red List ranks species according to their population status and threat levels. Read more
