Rhode Island Most Wanted Murder Suspect Captured By U.S. Marshals in Virginia

| December 2, 2012 | 0 Comments

Alexandria, VA ? U.S. Marshal Bobby Mathieson
announces the capture of Darrell Johnson. Johnson was wanted by Pawtucket
Police Department and has been on Rhode Island?s most wanted list since the
homicide of victim Joshua Burgo in July.

An altercation broke out between two rival groups in Rhode
Island on July 6. It is alleged that Johnson shot Burgo in the chest when
the altercation escalated. Burgo’s murder is believed to be part of an
ongoing feud between rival neighborhood groups, in which at least five other
people have been shot since May.

On Nov. 24, Deputy U.S. Marshals in the District of Rhode
Island developed information showing that Johnson was in the Norfolk, VA
area. Deputies in Rhode Island then contacted their fellow deputies in the
Norfolk Division of the Eastern District of Virginia to request assistance
in locating and apprehending this suspect.

On Nov. 28, Norfolk deputies arrived at a suspected address
for Johnson. After a short time, deputies observed a male matching the
suspect?s description leave the address and walk towards a local convenience
store. Deputies were able to positively identify Johnson inside of the store
as he walked up to the counter. At approximately 12 p.m., responding
deputies then entered the store and arrested Johnson without incident.

The U.S. Marshals Service arrested more than 36,200 federal
fugitives and 86,400 state and local fugitives in fiscal year 2011. Our
investigative network and capabilities allow for the unique ability to track
and apprehend any fugitive who attempts to evade police capture, anywhere in
the country, on very short notice.

Task Force ‘Operation TOAST’ Nets Sex Offenders

Task Force ‘Operation TOAST’ Nets Sex Offenders

| October 5, 2012 | 0 Comments

The U.S. Marshals Service-led Detroit
Fugitive Apprehension Team (DFAT) conducted a three-day sex offender sweep
in the City of Detroit from Tuesday through today. DFAT — comprising the
U.S. Marshals, Michigan State Police, Wayne County Sheriff?s Department,
Detroit Police Department, Dearborn Police Department, Livonia Police
Detroit Department, Sterling Heights Police Department, Macomb County
Sheriff?s Department, Oakland County Sheriff?s Department, Hamtramck Police
Department, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and Michigan Department of
Corrections — works in concert to arrest dangerous fugitive felons as well
as sex offenders. TOAST, which stands for Tracking Offenders and
Apprehending Significant Targets, targeted sex offenders in the Detroit
Area. There are currently 800 non-compliant sex offenders within the City of
Detroit, 400 of whom have outstanding warrants for criminal offenses.

More than 80 officers worked the sweep
that netted 70 Sex Offender Registry Felony arrests. These felonies were for
cases that involved violent sexual assaults. Also, there were six Friend of
the Court arrests, 19 misdemeanor arrests and 656 potential violations of
sex offender laws investigated and cleared. Finally, 83 Detroit Police, 63
Michigan State Police and 22 U.S. Marshals Adam Walsh Act felony
investigations have been initiated from information gathered during the
sweep.

One case involved Shantee Brown who was
wanted for bond jumping. His original charge was for 1st degree sexual
assault, kidnapping, assault with a deadly weapon, felony firearm and 3rd
degree sexual assault. He was given bond on the case and fled the State of
Michigan Sept. 13. DFAT tracked Brown to Birmingham, Ala. The U.S.
Marshals-led Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force worked the case and
arrested Brown Sept. 26. Brown attempted to flee from officers on a bike but
was apprehended after being chased. He is currently awaiting extradition to
Michigan.

The U.S. Marshals were given federal
responsibility under the Adam Walsh Act in 2006 to apprehend federal sex
offenders. Part of this responsibility is to partner with state and local
law enforcement to ensure that sex offenders register under the law and
arrest those who do not.

?DFAT is an outstanding example of law
enforcement at all levels coming together for the common purpose of removing
violent fugitives and sex offenders from the streets and neighborhoods of
our communities,? U.S. Marshal Robert M. Grubbs said. Grubbs said he could
not be any prouder of the efforts of all the officers involved.

Wayne County Sheriff Benny N. Napoleon
echoed Grubb?s comments. ?The collaboration that went into getting these
violent offenders off the street must be commended,? he said. ?I know the
effort prevented a number of innocent people from becoming their next
victims. We will continue teaming up to send the message that fleeing
custody is not an option because you will be caught and face the
consequences in court.?

U.S. Marshals Add Convicted Child Predator to 15 Most Wanted

U.S. Marshals Add Convicted Child Predator to 15 Most Wanted

| September 15, 2012 | 0 Comments

Clyde Hall Jr.

WASHINGTON ? The U.S. Marshals
Service added a convicted child predator to its 15 Most Wanted
fugitive list today.

Clyde Hall Jr.,
a career sex offender, who is wanted in the Northern District of
New York for violation of federal supervised release, failed to
report to a halfway house in New York after serving a 25-month
prison sentence for violations of the Adam Walsh Child
Protection and Safety Act at the Butner Federal Correctional
Institute in North Carolina.

Hall has a violent and abusive
criminal history dating back to 1985 with prior convictions for
assault and multiple sex offenses. He is clinically diagnosed as
a sociopathic psychosexual career sex offender and the State of
New York has labeled him a Tier III sex offender, its most
dangerous sex offender classification.

?Hall is a vicious sex offender with
violent tendencies and a history that dictates he will most
assuredly offend again,? said David L. Harlow, Assistant
Director for Investigative Operations. ?It is imperative that we
employ every available investigative resource to immediately
locate and arrest Hall before he has the opportunity to once
again prey upon innocent women and children.?

Authorities warn that Hall is sexually
attracted primarily to adolescent girls, but has secondary
interests in and an attraction to younger boys. He has admitted
to sexually abusing two 10-year-old girls and forcibly raping
two adult women while in his twenties. Hall?s condition requires
a high degree of clinical supervision and dictates he must
participate in sex offender treatment. He poses a high degree of
danger to the community.

?Hall is a career sex offender who
committed countless violent acts against innocent women and
children,? said David L. McNulty, U.S. Marshal for the Northern
District of New York. ?His capture deserves our full
investigative attention and we will work with our federal,
state, and local partners to ensure justice is served against
this violent sexual predator. Hall cannot escape the long arm of
the law.?

A reward of up to
$25,000 is offered for information
leading directly to his arrest.

Anyone with information is urged to
contact the nearest U.S. Marshals office or the U.S. Marshals
Service Communications Center at 1-800-336-0102.

U.S. Marshals Selling First 93 of Rita Crundwell’s Horses Via Online Auction

U.S. Marshals Selling First 93 of Rita Crundwell’s Horses Via Online Auction

| September 10, 2012 | 0 Comments

Washington ? The U.S. Marshals Service is selling
the first 93 of the Rita Crundwell herd of quarter horses via an online
auction starting noon Friday. The auction, at
www.professionalauction.com,
closes on Tuesday for 46 of the horses and
Wednesday for 47
of the horses. A live auction to sell the remainder
of Crundwell?s horses, more than 300, will take place in Dixon, Ill., Sept.
23 and 24.

Crundwell, 59, was one of the leading breeders of quarter
horses in the U.S. Formerly the comptroller of Dixon, Ill., Crundwell has
been federally charged with wire fraud in U.S. District Court in Northern
Illinois. Crundwell?s indictment charges her with fraudulently obtaining
more than $53 million from the city since 1990 and using the proceeds to
finance her horse breeding business and lavish lifestyle.

?Managing a herd this size since May has been challenging,
but mostly the same caretakers and veterinarians that were managing the
horses for the defendant have been managing the horses while they?ve been in
Marshals custody. We are confident that we have maintained the value and
quality of the herd for the thousands of people in the quarter horse
industry who have been waiting for this opportunity,? said U.S. Marshal
Darryl McPherson of the Northern District of Illinois.

Should the government prevail in its civil and criminal actions against
Crundwell, net proceeds from the sale of the defendant?s forfeited assets
will be applied toward restitution to the city of Dixon.

U.S. Marshals Arrest Puerto Rico Most Wanted Fugitive After 14 Years

U.S. Marshals Arrest Puerto Rico Most Wanted Fugitive After 14 Years

| September 10, 2012 | 0 Comments

San Juan, PR ? A major fugitive wanted on Puerto
Rico state charges for his alleged participation in a 1998 murder of a man
in Ponce, Puerto Rico was captured in Huntingdon Valley, PA, by the United
States Marshals Service.

Carlos Rodriguez-Alcala was being sought on a State
warrant issued in the District of Puerto Rico. He had been a fugitive from
justice since 1998, when the Puerto Rico Police Department Homicide Division
began investigating him for the brutal murder of a Ponce man as well as for
several violations of Puerto Rico weapons laws.

Recently, the United States Marshals Service led Puerto
Rico Violent Offenders Task Force became involved in the fugitive
investigation and developed information that Carlos Rodriguez Alcala may be
hiding in Pennsylvania working in the automotive sales industry. This
information was passed on to the U.S. Marshals led Eastern District of
Pennsylvania Violent Crimes Fugitive Task Force who was then able to arrest
the fugitive at his work place in Huntingdon Valley, PA without incident. It
was a swift arrest for this long sought after fugitive.

Carlos Morales Alcala is now awaiting extradition back to
Puerto Rico to face his charges in Puerto Rico state court.

“The U.S. Marshals Service throughout the nation combines
local and federal law enforcement resources to ensure that fugitives are
captured no matter how long it takes. We will continue to hunt fugitives,
find them, and make sure that they face their charges in court,” said
Orlando Rivera, U.S. Marshal for the District of Puerto Rico.

Annually, investigations carried out by the U.S. Marshals
result in the apprehension of approximately 34,000 federal fugitives. More
federal fugitives are arrested by U.S. Marshals than all other federal
agencies combined.

U.S. Marshals Service led task forces are composed of a
combination of local and federal law enforcement officers to combine their
expertise and resources. The objective of these task forces is to seek out
and arrest the worst violent offenders in each community. Last year, U.S.
Marshals led task forces arrested more than 27,000 state and local fugitives
on felony charges.

The U.S. Marshals Service led Violent Offenders Fugitive
Task Force is composed of law enforcement officers from the San Juan
Municipal Police Department, the Puerto Rico State Police, the Puerto Rico
Department of Corrections, the Puerto Rico State Treasury Department, the
Puerto Rico Bureau of Investigation, the Puerto Rico National Guard and the
United States Marshals Service.

U.S. Marshals Preview Seized Aircraft to be Sold At Public Auction

| September 2, 2012 | 0 Comments

San Juan, PR ?
The U.S. Marshals recently conducted a preview of six aircraft in Aguadilla that
will be sold at public auction Sept. 5 in Midland, Texas.

The aircraft were part of a seizure conducted
in December 2011 shortly after a search warrant was executed by the Drug
Enforcement Administration in relation to the investigation of Santo Seda-Rodriguez.

Seda-Rodriguez, owner and pilot of
Jeshua Air Services, was the subject of an investigation by the Dominican
National Drug Enforcement authorities as well as a federal investigation in
the U.S., after 58 kilograms of cocaine were seized in an aircraft allegedly
recorded under his name at the Americas International Airport in the
Dominican Republic. The next day Seda-Rodriguez?s body was found in the
Dominican Republic by local authorities, allegedly beaten to death.

The auction will take place at the
Midland International Airport in the Aeromod hanger at 2506 North Pliska
Drive. The U.S. Marshals will sell the aircraft ?as is,? and reserve the
right to pull any aircraft from the auction at any time prior to the sale
date without notice.

?The U.S. Marshals Service plays a
critical role by managing and selling assets seized and forfeited by federal
law enforcement agencies nationwide,? said U.S. Marshal Orlando Rivera of
the District of Puerto Rico.

Proceeds generated from asset sales are
used to compensate victims, supplement funding for law enforcement
initiatives, and support community programs.
