Cholera Kills 59 People in Kenya, Official Says

The Kenyan government on Thursday announced that so far 59 people have died of cholera and 1217 cases have been reported since the outbreak of disease in the country last month.
Addressing the press in Nairobi, Director of medical services in the ministry of health, Dr. James Nyikal said the outbreak has been reported and confirmed in sixteen districts in the country.
He cited poor personal hygiene and drinking of contaminated water as the main causes of the disease.
Dr. Nyikal then appealed to the public to observe proper hygiene conditions and seek medical care as soon as they noticed the symptoms including running stomach and vomiting.
He disclosed that government has allocated close to 40 million shillings ($625,000) to fight the outbreak.
