Clinton, Obama Hold 20th Presidential Debate
February 26, 2008
Democratic presidential candidates Senators Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama engaged in a heated debate about healthcare, trade and international affairs Tuesday night in Cleveland, Ohio.
Clinton scolded Obama over campaign pamphlets that claimed her healthcare plan forced people to buy insurance even if they cannot afford it.
The candidates accused each other of supporting the North American Free Trade Agreement, which they both said has hurt Ohio’s economy but helped some other states.
Clinton is hoping victories next week in primaries in Ohio and Texas will help her keep up with Obama, who has won 11 straight nominating contests.
Clinton leads in the latest polls in Ohio and is about even with Obama in Texas.
Earlier Tuesday, Obama received an endorsement from Senator Christopher Dodd, who ended his own campaign for the Democratic nomination last month.
Two new national surveys show Obama with a lead over Clinton. A New York Times/ CBS News survey has Obama in front, 54 to 38 percent, while a survey by USA Today and the Gallup organization shows Obama ahead of the New York senator, 51 to 39 percent.
