Congo to Acquire 1 Billion Barrel Floating Oil Storage Barge in 2009
October 8, 2008
Congo is expecting in 2009 a floating barge-platform with a capacity of 1 billion barrels of oil, APA learned Tuesday.
Currently in construction in Singapore, this barge of over 320m length and 56m width will be put at more than 140km off Pointe-Noire, the economic capital in the south of the country.
It must allow the National Oil Company of Congo (SNPC) to drill, produce, store and transport petroleum products.
This new barge has a capacity larger than the Moyo Bilombo and Nkossa barges which are already operation in the country, the inspection director of the Congolese Mines and Geology ministry, Marie Joseph Golingo, said upon return from Singapore to assess the progress of the construction work.
Congolese oil production is estimated at some 90 million barrels this year.
