French cooperation has given financial support of over CFA 138 million (210,880 euros) to Congolese NGOs in a bid to help improve the living conditions of the rural and urban population in the country.
The French ambassador to Congo, Nicolas Normand, and leaders of receiving NGOs signed the financing agreement on Thursday in Brazzaville. This is a new payment of the Social Development Fund of French cooperation which already financed 21 micro-projects in June 2008 and May 2009.
The money released will support community activities in the areas of biodiversity conservation, environmental protection, primary and secondary education, training of health professionals, integration of women and underprivileged girls, and income generation and employment.
Some 44 million CFA francs will be spent on the anti-poaching program in the national Nouabale-Ndoki Park in the Sangha and Likouala districts (north), while 13.2 million CFA francs will go to the collection and recycling of plastic items, and environmental remediation. All these projects will be carried out in partnership with the Wildlife Conservation Society- of Congo (WCS).
Some 19.6 million CFA francs will be earmarked to support the building of the training and documentation center of the France-Congo medical home, as part of the in-service training, a project intended to strengthen the capacity of this center in order to improve the quality of researches for health professionals and medical students.
