Country Singer Eddy Arnold Dies At 89

May 8, 2008

Legendary country music singer Eddy Arnold died Thursday at a senior care facility outside Nashville, Tennessee, days before his 90th birthday.

Arnold sold over 85 million records during his career, which began in the 1940s, making him one of the most successful stars in country music history.

He is remembered for blending elements of country and pop music, which contributed to his success in urban areas, where country music is typically less popular.

Arnold had many hit songs including “Make the World Go Away,” “I Want to Go With You,” and “Turn the World Around.”

Arnold was elected to the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1966.
