July 18, 2008

After eight years of absence from the music scene, the Ivorian artist Daouda Toukoné alias “Daouda le Sentimental” is about to release an album next month titled: ” La misère et la mer” or “Poverty and the Sea”, he told APA on Thursday.

Daouda who had, from 1976 to 2000, undertaken a steady musical production marked by success including “La Femme de mon patron”, “Mon coeur balance” or “Sentimental 2000,” explains this long absence with “an exile in the USA “, Where he was “searching for himself.”

“Despite the retreat that I wanted to give myself, people still love what I do. That is why I went to the studio to make this new disc “La Misère et la Mer” or “Poverty and the Sea”, the Ivorian artist who considers touring the sub-region after the disc come out said. With this return to music scene, the artist hopes better.

“My prayer is to succeed in restarting my career and gain more fame than I have ever had before. My travels have shaped me and this is why I neither bank on nobody nor expect nothing from nobody” Daouda said.

The mere fact that everyone is crooning my songs is for me a huge source of pride and a sort of permanent call to the duty to create and please music lovers.

However, “this pride is toned down at every street corner by piracy. This must stop,” he said.

With sobering songs, “Daouda le Sentimental” has recorded for 30-years.
