DB Realty to Build India’s Biggest Mall

April 30, 2008

Flag_of_IndiaDB Realty, India’s fastest growing real estate and hospitality conglomerate, has announced that it is developing Orchid OZONE - India’s biggest mall with over 2.5 million sq. ft at Dahisar, North Mumbai. Being built with an investment of USD 175 million (Rs. 700 crore), the mall promises to transform the sector by ushering the Next Level of international benchmarks in the Indian retail industry.

DB Realty has already roped in prime anchor tenants such as Pantaloons, Hypercity and Shoppers Stop. Orchid Ozone will be a complete and unique retail experience spread over 1.6 million sq. ft for urban shoppers. In addition, it will also comprise of luxurious lifestyle and entertainment choices such as:

* Mystifying Water themed atrium by Wet Design Inc, USA
* A 20-screen megaplex theatre
* A 125 room boutique hotel
* A 50,000 sq. ft kids ‘play & care’ zone
* Travolators to connect shoppers seamlessly from one level of the mall to the other.
* Large food courts offering world cuisine that overlook the scintillating water themed atriums

Mr. Asif Balwa, Director, DB Realty, stated: “DB Realty foresees a dramatic shift in the Indian retail scenario. As current retail formats within cities become cluttered, urban families will want to explore ‘on-the-periphery’ suburbs to experience a global lifestyle destination. Keeping this shift in mind, we designed the Orchid Ozone Mall at Dahisar. Urbanities can not only shop here to their heart’s content, but can experience a completely relaxed shopping and entertainment environment similar to global cities. DB Realty is focused on raising the benchmarks across all realty verticals and we are confident that India’s biggest global mall - Orchid Ozone - will lead the way in ushering that change.”

The project is scheduled to be ready by the end of the last quarter of 2009.

    Orchid Ozone Mall which is supposed to be India’s biggest Mall after its completion in 2009 is not inside Mumbai municipal limits but is actually just outside Mumbai limits i.e. in Mira Road (Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation) which is a suburb just touching Dahisar.

    So the bottomline is that the India’s Biggest Mall is not in Mumbai but actually outside Mumbai, Mira Road, District Thane (Mira-Bhayander Municipal Corporation limits).

    Please make necessary corrections in your article.

    (Note: You need not even check up with M/s D B Realty for checking this reality after you actually visit the location and read an article in The Times of India - Mumbai edition during last week).

    Regards. Bye.

    It seems that there is an official ‘mix up’ with the exact address. Claims have been made that this is due to the prestige value of being located in the suburbs of Mumbai.

    Dear admin,

    This is not a claim regarding the location of the mall but it is TRUTH. You can always visit the location and check for the TRUTH.

    Regards. Bye.

    Just by publicising that the Orchi mall is at Dahisar the reality & truth cannot be wiped of or covered. The fact anyways sooner or later is going to be uncovered some day or the other so please stop cheating the masses.

    Dear Admin,

    Thanks a lot for making the necessary changes, but i think the project should be publicized in the rite manner. If news persons like you also won’t publicise it properly, who will do it ?

    TRUTH is TRUTH, Thakur mall & orchid mall(Yet to come up) in mira road r also publicized as in Dahisar, but what point does it prove by writing wrong things , even after every person in dahisar knows its not in dahisar n evry person in mira road knows its in mira road !! Just bcoz its being in mumbai suburb makes this much of differance to developers then it should be constructed very much in suburbs n not in such a controversial location!!

    No Offence !!

    No Offense taken. Let me say thank you for actually pointing the matter out and apologize for taking a while before making at least some corrections. It is quite often only by readers leaving comments or using the contact form that we can learn about errors or misinformation in the articles we use. Unfortunately we do not have the luxury of journalists in every part of the world to help us out.

    If you know of any press releases or copyright free reports about the development and controversy then please let us know. Feel free to use the contact form or the comment form to point us at any news you are interested in bringing to a wider audience. We will feature it if we are able.

    Dear Friends - Sahas and Swati and after all Admin,

    Thankyou all for taking my point forward that the mall is in Mira Road. Now this news must spread further through some media (already Times of India has done the good work two weeks back). Now what about LODHA AQUA Project which the builder is claiming to be in DAHISAR which is actually in Mira Road???? Friends this must now be taken in another forum.

    Thankyou all again.

    Regards and Bye all.

    I think big corporates have fear to say in public or media that the mall is not in mumbai but outside mumbai,or wheter they have any hints to merge miraroad in Mumbai????? clarify and say truth…

  10. Madhavi Roy on August 2nd, 2008 6:10 am

    Its an excellent news that big corporates at long last have given some thoughts to the distant suburbs.We all hope that riding on the real estate boom,the area adjoining check naka and Kashimira is developed beyond recognition.But I would like to know from the realty companies,whether they have taken up the cases of poor condition of the main approach roads of Mira Road and the utter chaos near the signal just opposite Thakur Mall. with MBMC?Development of roads and infrastructure of the nearby areas will automatically result in higher footfalls in these malls.

  11. Tisgaon on August 20th, 2008 5:24 am

    Yes Ms. Madhavi Roy, I had already conveyed through e-mail to MMRDA to construct a road from Dahisar Check Naka to Srishti via Penkarpada. Actually this road exists just before the Ajit Palace Hotel on Dahisar side but it ends abruptly. If you visit that place then you will find all the garbage at the end of the road and MBMT buses parked en-route. The distance from this endpoint to the Srishti junction (T-junction before Casadella) is approx. 0.8 kms and would cost only around Rs. 5 Crores (maximum). But MMRDA has never bothered to respond to that e-mail also. The current condition of Srishti road (passing near Ajit Palace) is the worst and only a Sonia Gandhi’s visit would help us. I think politicians are only interested in building bridges connecting Navi Mumbai and South Mumbai. They are not interested in basic infrastructure in the MMR region which does not have enough water availability, power load shedding and bad infrastructure, illegal constructions. Each politician passes the buck to the other and takes care of the vote banks only. I think this country can never improve.

Got something to say?
