Dr Pepper Links Up With ‘Indiana Jones And the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull(TM)’

April 28, 2008

Dr_PepperThis year, the crack of Indiana Jones’ whip signals the start of summer, as Dr Pepper celebrates the opening of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull by giving fans an exclusive passport to explore more of the long-awaited fourth installment of the Indiana Jones adventures. Through an innovative partnership with this summer’s biggest movie release, the Dr Pepper Passport to Explore with Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull promotion will help consumers bring the excitement home with them and will even send 23 lucky winners on a globetrotting adventure of their own-Indy-style!

“Dr Pepper is Indiana Jones’ biggest fan, so we are thrilled to add even more excitement around an event that is 19 years in the making,” said Andrew Springate, vice president of marketing for Dr Pepper. “With the 23 flavors of Dr Pepper, there is always more to explore, and we’re bringing fans more ways to explore and experience Indiana Jones this summer.”

Dr Pepper will offer consumers a host of exciting opportunities to keep the Indiana Jones fun going all summer long with an integrated marketing campaign that includes national print, television and online advertising; instant win games with exclusive prizes; and limited edition collectible packaging. Everyone who enters an instant win game code at DrPepper.com will be eligible for the grand prize sweepstakes and an opportunity to channel their “inner Indy” on an adventure to one of four exotic destinations: Egypt, India, Jordan or Peru. All places that Indiana Jones himself has visited during his adventures! The 23 grand prize winners will soon learn that their 10-12 day adventure trips, provided through Expedia, are not for the faint of heart-packing in enough horseback riding, boat travel and rigorous hiking to make Dr. Jones himself hold on to his fedora for dear life.

Game codes can be found under the caps or inside the wraps of specially marked 20 oz. and 2-Liter bottles, as well as 12- and 24 -packs of Dr Pepper and Diet Dr Pepper. Additionally, scratch off game codes will be featured in print ads, and codes will be given away in online ads. One-in-six codes will win a prize! Fans can visit DrPepper.com or text in game codes to learn if their codes are instant winners and redeem their prizes. In addition to the adventure trips, prizes include Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull/Dr Pepper T-shirts and hats; free movie tickets; free Dr Pepper product; and much more.

23 Dr Pepper treasure hunters will also discover that there is even more inside their Dr Pepper can — quenching their musical thirst with one of 23 iPod(R) Nanos(1) hidden inside specially marked cans randomly placed in 12-packs. The Nanos will be pre-loaded with “Raiders March” — the Indiana Jones theme song by composer John Williams, as well as an exclusive behind-the-scenes photo from the movie set. Fans will also have the opportunity to collect six limited edition Dr Pepper collector’s cans featuring scenes and characters from the new film.

The Dr Pepper Passport to Explore with Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull promotion will be supported by a television spot that captures the spirit of the new summer blockbuster and connects the two iconic brands. Additionally, Indiana Jones-inspired Dr Pepper print ads will run in People, US Weekly, Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone and In Touch Weekly. Online banner ads will takeover the Yahoo! Movies section on Yahoo.com. The television ads and online media will begin running on May 1, while print ads are scheduled to appear beginning on May 9, 2008.

“By working with Dr Pepper, we wanted to create a rich experience for Indiana Jones fans, both old and new,” said Kayleen Walters, director of marketing for Lucasfilm Ltd. “Dr Pepper is an American institution, making it a perfect partner for the new Indiana Jones film.”

Unfortunately It has become quite common for contests to require you to register just to find out if you have won. There is a contact form available from the Dr Pepper website that may help you with your question.

Your screen that you touch to register your code wouldn’t let me entera to put in my information. This is really frustrating if you can’t access the information you want from your costumers, you will lose them. Thanks

To all the people leaving comments about problems with the Dr Pepper site:

We have forwarded your concerns but must reiterate your best course of action is to use the contact form on drpepper.com.

As far as we can see in theory you should head over to
http://www.drpepper.com/IJ4/ You will need flash installed in your
browser to see the full promotion page. After the flash animation has
loaded there is an option along the top that says ‘enter 1 in 6 code’
This should allow you to enter your code. Be aware you also have to
register before you can type your code in.

I am a serious Diet Dr Pepper drinker. The game is 1 in 6 wins. I understand that this does not mean exactly every 6th entry would win, but I have entered over 30 codes and have won nothing yet!!!!!

I was reading the official rules and it says that one of the ways to win is to:

Indiana Jones™ Online Game: Go to the Website, complete the registration process and play the online Indiana Jones game. The Online Game allows you to get a stamp (”Stamp”) in a virtual passport for every locale that you visit while playing the Online Game. Every Stamp is worth 1 entry in the Sweepstakes. Limit 4 Sweepstakes entries via Indiana Jones™ Online Game.

What is this? Where is this game at?

Also, if your printed code doesn’t work and you try all the options of their variations… your only choice is to mail it in?

    Thank you,

After spending three hours trying to get the site to load, I gave up and went to
google to search and see if others were having trouble. It seems I am not alone
and Dr. Pepper has some real problems! Why didn’t they just make the game
pieces say your a winner or sorry you lost! The cost of maintaining a web site
that obviously has issues surely costs more in customer frustration than even
having a contest in the first place. Bad call Dr. Pepper!!!!!!
Could it be that there are no winners!
    Surely NOT!

The whole thing is a lie, there are no codes for the bottles. I registered and went to see if my bottle cap which ended in uwin, was indeed a winner and claim my prize. But the site kept leading me to a blank page which had nothing on it. I think that I will take my 24 bottle caps which all end in “uwin” to an attorney cause u are false advertising. Im really xxxxxxx off about the whole thing. If anyone has been
able to claim anything off the 20 oz bottle codes please do tell, maybe we should all get the law involved and teach them a lesson.

I have entered 13 codes and I have not won a single thing. As a matter of fact I haven’t talked to anyone who has won anything. Maybe I should setup a contest that says 1 in 6 wins, send them to a static link that says they were “So Close” to winning, then sell their E-mails to a Spammer.

I also have been trying for about 2 hours to enter my codes which read:UWIN on them. I love Dr. Pepper and I wont quit drinking it, but I am very discouraged with this GAME. I did get registered, but that did not help in the navigation process necessary to enter my codes. I have taken admin’s advice, still no luck…. The only GAME I can go to successfully is the one that requires the code to hav been obtained from a fountain cup, but I am looking for the bottle cap code entery area. Please offer me with a better navigation route.
    Thank you

Your contest sucks, how about giving something away worth while, you do have a good product especially 10 2 4 with pure cane sugar, which you can find in south Texas and not in north Texas, and it all seems real odd since your headquarters is located in the Dallas area, you might want to do something about it. But in all you need to work on your contest and make it easier for people to look up what they might have won. P.S. most of your prizes are ridiculous like Indiana Jones wallpaper, small fries from Burger King, and Indinan Jones screen saver………get real…..

Got something to say?
