Uganda’s minister for East African community (EAC)affairs, Eriya Kategaya has said that the main event in observing the tenth anniversary of the EAC on 20th November, 2009 at Sheikh Amani Abeid Stadium in Arusha will also witness the signing of the Protocol on the Establishment of the East African Community Common Market by the EAC Heads of State.
Kategaya issued a statement in Kampala saying East Africans from all walks of life, regional and foreign dignitaries, representatives of the African Regional Economic Communities and International Organizations are expected to attend the main event.
The date of the main event has been brought forward from 30th to 20th November, 2009 due to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) due to take place in Trinidad and Tobago towards the end of November, 2009,he said .
The theme of the observance is “East African Community Ten Years of Integration, (1999-2009), One People, One Destiny”.
He said one of the objectives of the EAC 10th Anniversary Observance is to showcase the EAC achievements during the decade of its operations (1999 -2009), to renew commitment to regional integration and to rededicate to the regional integration effort into the next decade, 2010 -2020
He added that the 18th Meeting of the Council of Ministers urged Partner states to organize activities/celebrations at National level.
The EAC Diplomatic missions will also organize joint activities of the EAC 10th anniversary observance.
