The president of Egypt Air, Asaad Darwish, met Wednesday with officials of the Egyptian International Cooperation ministry to discuss details of the air bridge between Addis Ababa and Cairo for the transfer of two thousand tons of refrigerated Ethiopian meat to Egypt for the Eid.
Darwish told reporters today that the two sides approved to get the cost of transportation – without a profit margin – in order to provide meat to the Egyptian market before the Muslim feast of sacrifice, Eid al-Adha.
Darwish added, one thousand and five hundred head of cattle are being examined in Ethiopia in preparation for slaughter and refrigerated before being shipped to Egypt.
Ethiopia’s livestock and meat exports to Egypt were ceased in early 2006 due to various reasons.
The cattle industry is one of the Ethiopian economy’s quickest growing export industries and leading foreign currency earners.
