Egypt Rejects US Report on Human Rights in the World
March 15, 2008
Egypt on Friday rejected the United States report on human rights in the world which was critical of Egypt’s human rights record.
A spokesman for the Egyptian foreign ministry said that Egypt is against any state assuming the moral ground on the conditions of human rights across the world.
The spokesman stressed that the report was far from being objective and scientific. He noted that Egypt only answers to international agreements it signed regarding human rights.
The report, released on 11 March said the Egyptian government’s respect for human rights remained poor, and that serious abuses continued in many areas.
