Egypt Will Not Accept Israeli Military Operations in Gaza, Says Foreign Minister

Egypt cannot accept any Israeli military operations targeting Gaza or the West Bank, Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit told his Israeli counterpart, Tzipi Livni, during their meeting in London on Saturday.

Gheit said in a press statement on Saturday after returning from London that he told Livni that the situation now requires restraint to prevent “an explosion” in the region.

He said that Livni also talked about the Egyptian vision to reach an understanding between Israel and the Palestinian organization Hamas.

He also said that Livni assured him that Israel would participate in the World Economic Forum in Egypt scheduled for 18- 20 May.
