Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak believes that the only way to eliminate the piracy phenomenon in the Horn of Africa is to exert efforts by the Arab League and the international community to restore peace to Somalia.
Speaking to reporters Saturday after a meeting between Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak and his Yemeni counterpart Ali Saleh, the presidential spokesman Suleiman Awad said the two leaders touched upon the piracy phenomenon in the Horn of Africa with focus on its effects on maritime transport in the Red Sea.
The presidential spokesman quoted President Mubarak as saying that Egypt can protect its interests and that it was fully aware of the regional situation.
