Egypt’s Illegal Drug Trade Worth $3.4 Billion

The Egyptian Central Bureau of Statistics said in a report published on Wednesday that the volume of illicit drug trafficking in Egypt in 2007 was worth 18.2 billion Egyptian pounds (about $3.4 billion).
The report said the illicit trafficking in drugs negatively affects Egypt’s economy and leads to a waste of society’s resources.
The report said what was spent on substance abuse in Egypt last year equals the income of the Suez Canal and oil revenues in one year .
